It looks at risk assessment, controlling risks and identifying hazards and covers the main provisions of both the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations.

The Fire Safety (Regulatory Reform) Order 2005 states that as an employer has the responsibility to ensure that all staff receives suitable training. All employers should provide annual confirmation that training meeting the standards of the Fire Safety Order has been undertaken.

The course also enables the trainee to contribute to the risk assessment process required under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations.

Falling at work accounted for 53 of the 220 work-related fatalities in 2004/05. People often think working at height only applies to roof work or scaffolding. Whilst this is partly true, you may be surprised to know that 59% of major injuries occur following a fall from height of less than two metres.

The course enables staff working at height to know how to undertake a risk assessment, ensure the appropriate equipment is used and to know how to put in place sufficient control measure and precautions to avoid accidents.
